FOLLONICA
Extremely popular seaside resort facing the Gulf by the same name. It’s recent steel mining past has produced several characteristic monuments worthy of note: the San Leopoldo main church known as the cast iron church, the wide gate which used to access the factory village and the tower clock inside the ancient industrial area.
SCARLINO
The imposing fortress which dominates the entire town from above proves the strategic position which Scarlino always had over the plains below, spreading all the way to the Follonica Gulf; each Summer, concerts and theatre representations are held with this evocative backdrop. In Puntone, the new tourist port “Etrusca Marina” offers boat moorings, shops and restaurants.
GAVORRANO
Old town with references to Dante (it was in the Castello di Pietra here that Pia de’Tolomei died), has for may years been active in the extraction of pyrite which has left evident traces preserved and enhanced today by the Parco Minerario Naturalistico. In summer, this suggestive setting provides the backdrop for theatre shows and concerts.
