The Consorzio Produttori Latte Maremma is one of those rare spontaneous production activities in the municipal lot in the '60s when a group of producers known for their diligence in business he decided to join the company to meet the needs of modernization of production to coincide with the introduction of new health rules. Thus was born the idea of creating a small factory for collecting, pasteurizing and sale of milk from Muccheria members, which saw the establishment in 1961, at number 15 Via Aurelia in Grosseto. Before then, the milk was purchased by the people in so-called "dairy", almost exclusive shops, scattered in cities and supplied daily by individual producers. The entry into force of an order of the mayor of Grosseto which prohibited the sale of milk "raw" imposed prior to the pasteurization of milk before it enters the market.

 

The need for a reorganization of the sector is also imposed because the costs for collection and subsequent processing of the milk could not be supported by individual companies. The Provincial Farmers Union intervention of Grosseto allowed so the birth of the "Consortium Latte Maremma" which joined 20 members. The first President of the consortium was Count Roberto Guicciardini Corsi Salviati and the Board of Directors went to join the Lords Roberto Pallini, Antonio Concialini, Antonio Sfondrini, Roberto Tenucci, Azelio Marsili, Mario Santarelli, Giovanni Guicciardini Corsi Salviati, Livio and Horses Mrs. Maria Annunziata Pallini. The working day was between 80 and 100 tons of milk and had just enough to serve a community such as that of Grosseto, in 1960, consisted of a population with little more than 50 000 inhabitants.

 

In the 70 Ente Maremma gave the consortium the opportunity to transfer the plant via Aquileia in a zone Sterpeto in Grosseto, in which the Authority had planned the birth of some cooperative initiatives. In agreement with the Consortium and the Farmers Union, the organization designed and self-funded the current center of pasteurization. The consortium, headed then by Mr. Hercules Tap, lived the period of the transfer of new building and the enlargement of the social base with the addition of small dairy farmers from the land of the Reformation which led to an increase in duty.

 

In May 1974 the chair of the Consortium went to Dr. Giorgio Fiorentini San Donato was the experience of the farm and he held the office for one year. In 1975 he was succeeded by Henry Sfondrini which, in turn, took over in May 1976 Dino Quadalti who held the presidency for 24 years. In those years - ranging from 1970 onwards - to coincide with a nationwide campaign to promote the consumption of fresh pasteurized milk, as opposed to the rampant consumption of long-life, location of the commercial product had better luck.

 

The organization of the collection in Muccheria or on farms, already thirty years ago, first in Tuscany, was made in a fully pre-chilled to the barn. Where there was no electricity, refrigeration plant with gas took place. This is particularly mean to the attention of producers and the Consortium in having a fresh product that was soon to be well appreciated for its organoleptic characteristics. Since 1992 began production of pasteurized milk "High Quality" which was a further step in the commercialization of a product that answers a few basic parameters for the amount of fat, protein, etc.. provided by a specific law.

 

Again, the Consortium was among the first companies to introduce this important product quality in the jar. The years that followed were satisfactory, and while the potential of the plant - which extends over almost an acre - on the road to Grosseto Scansanese, has become of 900 liters, of milk daily injections of the current 85 members have reached 600 pounds.
