GROSSETO
The major town, situated a few kilometres from the sea, in the heart of the Maremma plains, dates back to the upper middle ages. It's boundary wall is practically intact, and can still be covered entirely on foot like those of only three other Italian cities. The heart of the town centre is characterized by the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the San Francesco Church, the spectacular Cassero Senese where there is an interactive museum featuring Maremma’s history.
ROSELLE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK
Evocative assay of Etruscan and Roman vestiges which still live in the splendid Roman theatre which has been perfectly preserved and acts as a backdrop to famous theatre representations during the Summer season. Of Etruscan, Roman and medieval origins, the ancient town of Roselle has always been extremely appealing.
PRINCIPINA A MARE
The Principina a Mare town centre runs along the coastline next to the Grosseto plains, about 10 km from the city. The seaside resort was developed recently inside the pine wood forest along the coastline. The town lives up thanks to tourism, mainly during the summer season.
MARINA DI GROSSETO
The wide sandy shore and vast pinewood forest full of rosemary, juniper and a luxuriant and uncontaminated Mediterranean vegetation, have achieved a miracle in time. The ancient San Rocco, which once was a fishermen’s village, has been transformed into Marina di Grosseto where villas, modern buildings, restaurants, banks, have created a city type reality which today has become a renown seaside resort and tourist port.
ALBERESE
Just few kilometers South of Grosseto you’ll find Alberese, today “waiting room” of the Maremma Natural Park. Despite the presence of man, the natural paradise has been safeguarded and today a Park and regional law ensure the preservation of this beauty. Wild herds of horses and Maremma oxen still frolic through the vast meadows, while wild boards and roe dears live undisturbed in the thick forests of the Uccellina mountains.
